Today, we call it Lepidolite, named for the Greek word 'lepidos', which means scale, a good description for the flakey mica that covers the stone's surface. This beautiful crystal's shimmering scales are reminiscent of a dragon's scale, evoking a sense of mystery and mysticism.
Beyond its physical and geological attributes, lepidolite has long been revered for its metaphysical and healing properties. It is economically important as a major source of lithium. Because it is one of the few minerals containing appreciable amounts of rubidium, it is useful in determining geological age according to strontium–rubidium ratios. Lepidolite occurs almost exclusively in granite pegmatites.
